Head lice are small parasites found on the human scalp, a natural habitat for their development. They nourish themselves on the blood they suck after having made a tiny bite. If these parasites are distanced from the skin, they cannot survive more than two or three days.
Head lice live around three weeks, in which time the female lays roughly three hundred eggs(nits) that stick to the hair via a liquid substance that is emitted during ovulation: this serum, along with the bites, provoke itching and an irritable sensation in those infested.
Head lice, though not generally dangerous, are surely not welcome and since anyone can become victim, prevention is essential. This can be accomplished by creating an unfavorable environment to lice settlement. When infestation has occurred, however, scrupulous disinfestations and cleansing must be carried out.
HEAD LICE INTERVENTION
Proper cleansing with appropriate cosmetic products, shampoos and oils that create a harsh environment for head lice as well as the mechanical action of removing the parasites and nits themselves with a fine-toothed comb, are necessary, effective treatments for these most unpleasant infestations.
